Community Aid
This portfolio of the AUDSS assists students in becoming more involved within their community. You might think of it as a prelude to our future occupation where giving back to the community and helping those in need is a large part of what we do. The two major events in our calendar include the AUDSS Sleepout and Trivia for Timor.
Sleepout - Friday, May 15th 2015
This is an opportunity for students and staff to experience what it’s like to be homelessness for a night in order to raise much needed funds for the Community Outreach Dental Program (CODP). This project is based in a dental clinic within the Common Ground complex in Light Square, Adelaide which was set up through donations from commercial groups and a government grant. Volunteers consisting of University of Adelaide staff, School of Dentistry students, private dentists and allied health professionals provide free dental care to those who are homeless or who cannot access conventional oral health care. The night kicks off with a BBQ for dinner, which is then followed by a few words from our guest speakers. Later in the evening, the participants are kept busy with a variety of performances, a movie and the chance to mix and mingle so there is basically something to cater for everyone who attends! The following morning, breakfast marks the conclusion of the event and then it is time to say goodbye to new friends and hello to the rest of the weekend.

Trivia for Timor - Friday, September 4th 2015
A very fun trivia night organised in conjunction with the Recent Graduates Committee to raise money for the Rotary/Lions East Timor Dental Project which was set up by two Adelaide dentists, Dr Terry Yuen and Dr Richard Salters, in 2001. This program brings dentists, dental students, dental nurses, hygienists and therapists to villages surrounding Dili, East Timor who provide essential dental services to residents whilst also training local dental nurses.

Donated items are auctioned on the night and the winning teams are treated to a prize at the end of the many rounds of trivia. If you’re looking for a chance to meet new people and are up for a challenge, then come join us at the trivia night this year!

A Movie Night/Second-Hand Sale – at the beginning of the year which will allow students to sell/purchase pre-loved textbooks and instruments at a reduced price and relax while watching a recently released film
