Education

The AUDSS advocates for greater academic support for dental and oral health students. Our aims are to encourage understanding of wider academic and professional issues in dentistry by supporting the extracurricular academic development of each member.

These aims are achieved by close, open communication with student year representatives, the AUDSS committee and three main initiatives: AAPDP, Group And Individual Learning and First Year Student Support Program.

The Student Affairs portfolio works tirelessly throughout the summer break to bring together a whole variety of extra lectures and workshops presented by guest lecturers on various areas of interest that usually take place every Thursday evening during the academic year. For more information please either click here or the AAPDP Lectures banner above.

The AUDSS organises Group and Individual Learning sessions for different year groups and specialities. It gives senior students the opportunity to reinforce their own knowlodge by helping guide their juniors on different topics. In turn, postgraduate students and registras take the time off to advise senior students about their specialty field. For more information please click please either click here or the Group and Individual Learning banner above.

The AUDSS Buddy System was first introduced in 2013 by then Student Affairs Executive Raoul Mascarenhas and has been going from strength to strength. It can be daunting for first year students starting oral health or dentistry especially if they have come straight out of high school, from interstate or overseas. The Buddy System gives first year students the opportunity to be partnered with a senior student who can provide them with support and advice throughout their first year. For more information please either click here or the First Year Student Support Program banner above.

Ultimately, Student Affairs aims to support and supplement the academic learning experience of students whilst promoting friendship and intermingling throughout the years to enhance the dental school experience for our members.
