Events

It would not do us any good if dental and oral health students spent everyday hitting the books or in the simulation lab practicing cavity and crown preps. A healthy mix of social and physical activities need to be incorporated into our lives as well!

The AUDSS organises events throughout the year to keep students active. The four major events organised by the AUDSS are Dental Camp, Dental Ball, Inter-year sports and Basement Parties. Be sure to visit the Gallery page to have a look at the photos taken by our team of photography enthusiasts.

Public Debate: Universal Dental Insurance - Thursday, September 3rd, 5:30pm

The AUDSS in conjunction with ADA (South Australian Branch) and ARCPOH have organised a public debate on universal dental insurance.

The central question to be discussed will be "Should a Universal Dental Insurance Scheme be Implemented in Australia?". Attendees will get an unique insight into issues affecting the profession including the impact on future demand for dental treatment and the dental job market.

Arguing in favour of a universal dental insurance scheme will be Professor Marco Peres, who has published over 150 peer-reviewed papers in public health and is currently director of ARCPOH. Arguing against will be Dr Karin Alexander, previous President of the Federal ADA and current ADASA councillor. Both speakers were nominated and confirmed by the executive of their respective organisations.

We plan to have the first 45mins of the session dedicated to Q&A from the moderator(s). We will open the floor for questions for the final 10mins. A list of talking points will be provided to both speakers and published on this page prior to the debate. If anyone would like any questions asked on the night please post them in this page or forward these to anyone on the student affairs team.

At this stage we are aiming for a total time of about one hour (5:30-6:30pm). A venue will be announced closer to the date.

The AUDSS have worked very hard to organise these two very distinguished speakers. We strongly encourage you to attend what should be a fun night.
